Why Cozy Sips Exists: Our Mission to Help Rescue Animals

Cozy Sips is a coffee and tea company. But that's not why we exist.

We exist because every cozy sip should help an animal stay cozy too.

This is the short version of how we got here, what we believe, and where your money goes when you buy from us.

How Cozy Sips started

Cozy Sips began with a small ritual: a quiet morning, a cup of something good, and a rescue dog at our feet. The kind of morning where the rest of the day feels manageable because the first hour was gentle.

We started wondering why more companies don't feel like that — why most of what we buy is loud, urgent, and forgettable. We wanted to build something that felt the opposite. Something small. Something quiet. Something that gives back to the people and animals who make our homes feel like home.

That's Cozy Sips.

What we believe

Three things, in plain English:

  1. A cup of tea or coffee is a small ritual that can change your whole day. That ritual is worth protecting — and worth doing right.
  2. Premium doesn't have to mean corporate. Specialty-grade beans, organic herbs, transparent sourcing — delivered by a small founder-driven shop, not a multinational.
  3. Every business should give something back. We chose animal rescue because the animals in our homes are part of what makes them feel like home.

Where your money goes

We donate a portion of our monthly profits to:

  • ASPCA — the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. They run the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, behavioral rehabilitation, and nationwide advocacy for stronger animal cruelty laws.
  • Best Friends Animal Society — running the largest no-kill sanctuary in the U.S. and supporting animal rescue networks nationwide. They're a key reason the no-kill movement has scaled.
  • Local animal rescues and shelters — the small, often underfunded organizations that do the day-to-day work of fostering, vetting, and rehoming animals in our communities.

We picked these partners for two reasons: their track records at scale, and the trust our customers have in their names. We won't pretend a donation is bigger than it is — we publish what we send and what it did, monthly.

How we choose our rescue partners

Not every animal organization is the right fit for us. Our criteria:

  • Track record — multi-year, audited, transparent about outcomes.
  • Reach — large enough that our donations have meaningful impact, not lost in overhead.
  • Mission alignment — focused on rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming, not advocacy that alienates our customers.
  • Transparency — willing to tell us what our donation funded, even when the answer is "we used it for vetting this month."

We revisit our partner list annually and rotate when a partner's work changes or when we find a local rescue doing exceptional work.

What "a portion of monthly profits" actually means

We don't claim "100% of profits" because that would mean we couldn't run the business. We claim a portion — and we publish the percentage and the dollar amount monthly.

Our commitment: as the business grows, the percentage we donate grows with it. We're starting at a baseline that lets us keep the lights on while we build; we expect that number to rise meaningfully in Year 2 and beyond.

You'll see the actual numbers in our monthly impact report — published on the blog, on our social, and emailed to subscribers. If we miss a month, that's on us — and we'll catch up with the full numbers, not just a summary.

Why this isn't a marketing gimmick

A lot of brands "support a cause" as a marketing line. We get it — it's hard to know which ones are real.

Here's how you can tell ours is real:

  1. We publish monthly numbers — what we sent, to whom, and what it funded.
  2. Our partner logos aren't on the homepage because they're decorative — they're on the homepage because we work with them, and we want you to know who they are.
  3. We're a small business — when you buy from us, you're funding a real company with real employees (and one rescue dog) doing real work.
  4. The percentage isn't 100% — because that would be a lie. We tell you what it actually is.

If you ever want to verify where your money went, we can show you.

How to support our mission (without buying coffee)

Not everyone needs more coffee. If you want to support the same mission directly:

  • ASPCA — donations fund anti-cruelty work, advocacy, and the Animal Poison Control Center.
  • Best Friends Animal Society — donations fund the sanctuary and the no-kill movement.
  • Your local shelter — every town has one. They almost always need volunteers, foster homes, and donations of money, food, or supplies.

We're not your only path to helping. We're just one of them.

The founder's promise

If you're reading this, you're probably one of our customers — or about to be. So here's my promise:

We will always tell you where your money went. We will always source coffee and tea we're proud of. We will never make the rescue angle bigger than it actually is. And we will keep the ritual at the center — the small morning cup, the quiet evening steep, the dog at our feet while we work.

That's why Cozy Sips exists.

Welcome. Brew something cozy. 🫖
